Description

:iconend-run--pokemon-oct:

EDIT: I forgot that ammunition weapons were cancelled after the First Great War and haven't been working for over 30 yrs. So, I edited Yona's backstory a bit saying that his parents and sister were killed because the enemy sides had extra weapons. Weapons can refer to anything. For all I know they could have been the earliest people to use Pokemon as weapons, used knives to stab and throw at people to death (probably also had scimitars), or had massive jeeps to run over people . . . just saying those things make me slightly cringe. Also I edited Yona's combat skills. No more knowing how to use a firearm. It's simply hand-to-hand combat and knives. I hope that's all I had to edit because I do want to join END RUN.
EDIT 2: Decided to add Yona's opinion on the rogues of End Run. Hey, if he has joined in the middle of Round 3 or whatever, he should have an opinion on the rogues. This may help me. I don't know how, it just does.

Name: Yona Jormungand

Nickname(s): Yona Boy, Rookie, Spy Boy, Little Soldier

Alias(es): Joey [homeless kid], Noah Jorgen [on travel], Conrad Vladimir [when introducing to an enemy]

Age: 16

Weight/Height: 145lbs/5’

Hometown/Region: Hoenn Deserts/Route 111 (Formally); Izabe Island, Hoenn

Status: Johto Special Operations (Spy)

Extra Items:
- Goggles
- USMC Mark 2 Combat Knife (KA-BAR; carries at all times)
- A coin with a small, hidden blade.
- Spy Camera [link]
- Tape Recorder

Personality:
Yona is generally quiet, not having many words to say (he hates small talk). He does, however, speak his mind when needed to. His voice holds an almost deadpan tone when he speaks. It’s rare for him to smile or laugh especially around other people. He’s mostly holding an aloof face, but is known to show supplementary emotions (mainly curiosity and confusion). Strangely, or maybe due to his past, Yona doesn’t show fear or panic when he’s faced up against something. For example, even if someone tries to intimidate him, he’ll still keep his remote expression. His other responses to such actions would be to simply let out a look of confusion or ask what’s wrong.

Despite being mature for his age, Yona can show violence and rage. If anyone dares harm anything or anyone he cares about or respects, the young boy won’t waver to strike. This can also happen if he sees someone that he REALLY, REALLY doesn’t like (EX: Caspar). Of course, he couldn’t unfortunately let loose such feelings to the high-ups of the military when they gave him the ultimatum of harming Cara and the others if he didn’t join Johto. However, it’s as rare as his smiles and laughs.

By being forced into war at a young age and meeting Caspar Vladimir, Yona has an eternal hatred of weapons and arms dealers. However, fate finds it funny to put him with Caspar’s sister, Cara (also arms dealer) at the age of eight. He can’t seem to find the hatred for Cara and what she does. Also, Yona is always in “battle ready” mode as he tends to react of what he has learned during his time when his tribe was at war. For example, while sleeping he’ll keep a weapon with him and will use said weapon if he’s woken up since he doesn’t know if it’s a friend or foe.

Due to his age and appearance (still looking like a child), other military personal see or mistake him as a rookie. He technically doesn’t care of what people think of him, though Yona would love to remind them of his "former" occupation. His looks do help with espionage, deceiving people to think he’s still simply a kid.

Not having a normal childhood, the simplest things bring back the kid in Yona. For example, he finds boat rides and plane rides fun and exciting. Also he has the tendency to be mischief, bringing out the rare laugh or smile.

He treats people with indifference while keeping some form of manners. However, if Yona finds anyone a threat, he won’t hesitate to disclose it. The young boy does, but secretly, gets embarrassed by women when they fond over him. As for Pokemon, before the war the young boy didn’t really think much of them. To him, they were simply living to their nature; be wild while having more or less human contact. If Pokemon didn’t mess with him, he wouldn’t mess with them. So, Yona didn’t have much experience/interactions with them. When war came and was given his first Pokemon, he thought of Pokemon differently and treated them almost like equals and pets.

Backstory:
Yona formally lived in the deserts of Hoenn (Route 111) where a civil war took place between his nomad tribe and other neighboring tribes over water rights. Despite being quite young at that time, he found the reason for the conflict strange. For many centuries, both tribes had a peaceful relationship over ownership of the available water. However, with this time and age, the relationship began to be mysteriously rocky.

The war went on without a victor until some of the sides somehow began having more quantities of weapons. By the increase, half of Yona’s tribe members were killed along with his parents and older sister. Their deaths led him at a young age of five to join the civil war as a form of revenge. Eventually, all nomadic tribes were almost completely slaughtered leaving only a few survivors. With only the experience of a soldier and nothing left of his family and tribe, Yona was alone in the deserts of Hoenn. Unfortunately, fate decided to take his life for another turn.

After living and surviving the deserts of Hoenn alone for three years, Yona was ambushed. He was able to kill a couple of the attackers before being disarmed by a woman, Armonda and meeting arms dealer, Caspar Vladimir. By meeting Caspar, the young boy learnt that the one of the other tribe’s leader’s eldest son was the one to implant conflict upon the nomadic tribes. Apparently, he worked for Caspar and found out that the arms dealer needed an underground route through the desert that would benefit Caspar’s arms trading business. Coincidentally, the tribes were in the way. By giving false accusations and stealing water, that was how the leader’s son brought the nomads to war. Basically, Yona’s family and tribe died for nothing, but a road.

Despite creating the underground passage, Caspar found out of how this was accomplished. One way or another, the arms dealer was both pleased and angry. For one thing, this allowed his business to flourish. For another thing, people may start to get curious of why the once peaceful nomadic tribes started to fight. In return, they might find evidence leading to Caspar, who wasn’t aware of this plan of driving the nomadic tribes into near extinction. The leader’s son was eventually executed, and labeled to have died from the civil war, for doing such a misdeed that could have become the downfall of Caspar Vladimir and his family name.

As punishment for killing some of his men as well as testing Yona’s character, Casper imprisoned the young boy in a pit for days without water. After Yona was released, Caspar revealed himself to be the one who sold the extra weapons; therefore, he’s indirectly responsible for the death of Yona’s family and people. The arms dealer then offers Yona a deal. The assurance of protection for the last surviving members of the nomadic tribes and in return, Yona would be employed as a bodyguard to protect Cara, Casper’s sister (also an arms dealer).

At the age of eight, Yona was moved to Izabe Island to be part of Cara Vladimir’s bodyguards. Even after he joined Cara's crew, his sentiment towards weapons has not changed. However, he finds himself growing a soft spot for Cara, even though Cara always makes Yona feel that he is being played the fool. For the next few or more years of the young boy’s life, it follows escapades around the world with his new family.

Another twist of fate happened again when Yona turned 16. With the war between Kanto and Johto restarting, business boomed with the need for Pokemon. The military, knowing about Yona’s previous record of combat and his training within Cara’s crew, wanted to recruit him for the war since it would be a shame to waste his skills.

At first, he rejected not wanting to leave Cara and the others including that he found Izabe Island as home. Of course, the military would give him an ultimatum to change his mind. Join the support for Johto or Cara and her squad will be put into danger. Wanting to keep the deal he made with Caspar, Yona agreed to join, but as a spy.

The first meeting with his partner Pokemon, a Larvitar, wasn’t exactly grand. They actually threw blows at each other! Chip Away vs Human Punches! The results of this little melee were easy: Yona won, the Larvitar given a name (Jonathan, or Jonah), and the two showing each other respect.

Thoughts on the War/Pokemon Used for the War:
Yona has little to no interest for the war going on between Kanto and Johto. He only joined in order to keep Cara and the rest of the crew back home safe. Not wanting to be on the battlefield too much (due to memories of his past), he prefers espionage. However, Yona won’t hesitate to kill if his mission is compromised, but he won’t kill children.

Yona is sympathetic towards the Pokemon being used for war. He connects with them since they’re like him; forced to become part of warfare, families being torn apart, homes destroyed, used as a weapon. The young teen has a no kill Pokemon policy, which he strictly follows every time he’s given an assignment. He holds no hatred for the Pokemon despite being weapons themselves.

Thoughts on the Rogues:
Yona is a bit sympathetic and envies the people who went to the rogue side after "the speech." He understands of how they see this war of being pointless that seems to hold no winner by the end. Both humans and Pokemon will simply suffer. He envies of how they threw away of why they joined this war to what they really want now. The boy secretly wishes he could join them, but knows that the people he considers family back home will be put into danger if he tries/does. These emotions have been grounded to do his duty for Johto.

Combat Skills:
- Due to Yona’s short stature (making his presence almost unnoticeable), he’s able to use stealth in many terrains. He’s more versatile in desert and mountain ranges. Trained in the mountains during his time with Cara Vladimir’s squad.
- Yona tries to master hand-to-hand combat and knife fighting. His knife and combat skills are slightly shaky against those who have more experience.
- Speed and flexibility is Yona’s main game when he has to fight.
- Due to still being a “kid” (and looking like one no less), this gives Yona the advantage of espionage (acting like a homeless child).
- Yona has an eye for detail, spotting anything out of the norm very easily allowing him to think ahead of what he has to do or take down mental notes of importance. For example, he can tell if someone is carrying a weapon.

Likes:
- Eggs (especially omelets)
- Hotdogs
- Children
- Water
- Staring into Space
- Learning New Languages

Dislikes:
- Weapons (except for Pokemon)
- Arms Dealers (except for Cara Vladimir)
- Small Talk
- Math
- Needles
- Any Food Too Sweet

Notable Features:
- Scar behind neck on the left side
- Brown eyes with an orange hue
- Black hair with an orange hue

Trivia:
- Yona is based off the character, Jonathan ‘Jonah’ Mar from the manga, Jormungand.
- The backstory of Yona is a twist on Jonah’s past and present.
- Yona’s body structure is (more or less) based off on Tetsuya Kuroko from the manga, Kuroko no Basket.
- Yona’s name is based off the pronunciation of Jonah’s name in Japanese. In some translations of Jormungand, Jonah’s name is spelled ‘Yona.’ The last name of Yona is self-exclamatory since it’s taken from the manga title.
- Children being part of war have been throughout time and history. So, it’s not too farfetched that Yona was thrown into war at an early age. Also, don’t forget, teenagers practically enlisted themselves in the army while still in high school back then and probably even younger.
- The youngest spy recorded (according to the internet) was 14 during the American Civil War. Again, not too farfetched that Yona is a 16-year-old spy.
- Spies did carry weapons. They used hidden blades in order to cut ropes when restraint or to simply wound someone. Also, hide poison in cigarette boxes to use later on unsuspecting targets. Yona uses a coin hinged with a small blade besides his KA-BAR.
- Yona's uniform is based on Japanese school winter uniform for boys which are actually derived on Prussian army uniforms. For another history lesson, Japanese school uniforms for boys and girls are based on Meijin period (1868 - 1912) formal military dress, which are modeled after European-style naval uniforms.
- Technically, hotdogs did exist back then, but they went under many different names. The term wasn't used until the, maybe, early 20th century. Early references to the term was during the 1800s.

POKEMON
Name: Jonathan ‘Jonah’ | Species: Larvitar | Nature: Quiet | Ability: Guts | Gender: Male

Nickname(s): Jonazard, Jugular, Sandy, Sand Eater

Pokemon Bio/Personality:
Jonah lived in the mountains near Blackthorn City. Before war came, he pretty much lived a carefree life with his parents. Unfortunately, his parents were poached due to: 1) Tyranitar is a rare creature, 2) boasting rights of capturing because it’s considered very powerful due to the Pokemon looking forward to battles, and 3) the Armor Pokemon is potentially (while protecting young) dangerous. Orphaned, the Larvitar had to survive the mountains on his own. Eventually, he was caught by the military.

The Rock Skin Pokemon was trained in stealth attack missions for desolate areas. The military trainers were quite confused about Jonah. Despite supposed to being a wild Pokemon, he never showed refusal of what he was going through. The Larvitar simply followed orders like an obedient pet. This sort of put uneasy thoughts for the humans, thinking that this little Rock/Ground Pokemon was planning his escape, or even their deaths. Those feelings were almost put into reality during Jonah’s first mission run.

The task was simple; infiltrate a Kanto mountain base and destroy it. Things were going according to plan until Jonah’s main handler, a woman named Marcia (who was the only human kind to him), was killed by a Kanto soldier. In order to avenge her, the Larvitar annihilated nearly every human in the base single-handedly by using only Bite. This event left a very gruesome memory for anyone, human or Pokemon, who seen the bloody rampage with his or her eyes.

Even if it was considered mission accomplished, the higher-ups were considering of putting Jonah down. For one thing, if he snapped again during an assignment then that could also mean the endangerment of Johto and allies alike. However, they didn’t like the idea of this power going to waste because of one incident. The Larvitar was almost euthanized since he began, and finally, showing signs of resistance to his qualified training. Until, an anonymous advice (probably from Cara Vladimir) was put through the military: hand Jonah over to the new recruit spy, Yona Jormungand. Whether it was a good idea or bad idea, the reptilian Pokemon was given to his new handler to be used for espionage.

His first meeting with his new handler wasn’t exactly grand. He threw the first blow! It was now, Chip Away vs Human Punches! The results: owner won, Jonah given his current name (Jonathan, or Jonah), and the two showing each other respect.

Jonah practically reflects Yona’s personality. The Rock Skin Pokemon is mainly silent and doesn’t converse much in his Pokemon language. He’s always holding an aloof face, only showing curiosity and confusion in certain situations. It’s rare for him to smile or laugh especially around others. The Larvitar isn’t so easily intimidated by humans or other Pokemon, even if they’re bigger than him. He would simply give a blank stare.

Like his handler, the Rock/Ground Pokemon can show violence and anger (evident to what happened before he was put into espionage). If anyone dares harm anything or anyone he cares about or respects, Jonah won’t waver to strike. This can also happen if he sees someone that he REALLY, REALLY doesn’t like (EX: poachers). However, these spurs of viciousness are rare.

Either it’s by evolution/species nature or learned from his parents, the Larvitar is always in “battle ready” mode. For example, if he’s woken up the reptilian Pokemon will Bite since he doesn’t know if it’s a friend or foe.

Due to the incident involving Jonah practically killing every living soul at the Kanto mountain base, other military personal and Pokemon are quite wary of him. He technically doesn’t care of what they think of him, though the Rock/Ground Pokemon wouldn’t mind reminding them of what he can really do to them.

Like Yona, he finds the simplest things, such as plane rides, fun and exciting. Also, has the same tendency to be mischief, bringing out the rare laugh and smile.

He treats humans and Pokemon with indifference while keeping some form of manners. However, if Jonah finds anyone a threat, he won’t hesitate to disclose it. Before the war, the Larvitar didn’t really think much of humans. Until his parents got poached, he didn’t like poachers at all. As for the ones that trained him in stealth strikes, little or more “I don’t give a damn, this is the only way I can live.” The reptilian Pokemon does, however, secretly likes being fond over by women.

When on base, Jonah stays out of his Poke Ball. However, during travel he stays inside his Poke Ball until needed. Yona basically does this in order to keep a low profile when on a mission or not on a mission. This will keep people from suspecting anything out of the ordinary and the advantage of surprise.

After the scuffle with Yona in their first introductions to each other, Jonah listens to his handler obediently and respects him. It also may be due to their very similar personalities. The Larvitar practically follows the young boy EVERYWHERE. He wouldn’t even mind walking in the rain with Yona. Despite all that, there’s no such thing as affection between these two. Their relationship is simply mutual friends.

Attacks:
- Bite
- Leer
- Sandstorm
- Chip Away

Accessories/Clothes:
- Metal Anklet (around left ankle; Braille inscription inside and out [inside: Midgard, outside: Serpent])
- Tape Recorder/Spy Camera (hidden in Jonah’s several ports)

Notable Markings:
- Scar under left eye

Speech Ability: None; Normal Pokemon Language

Combat Skills:
- Jonah is mainly used for desert and mountain espionage. In desert scenery, he’ll use Sandstorm as a cover for “natural, indecent weather.” In mountain scenery, he’ll act like a wild Larvitar simply eating soil.
- When Yona needs a chance to enter or exit from a certain point of his location, Jonah’s acts as a distraction. For example, if Yona needs to leave a building without being detected (after gaining some info), Jonah will cause damage, such as breaking a water pipe, to keep everyone’s attention somewhere else.
- For such a small body with stubby-like arms and legs, Yona has a surprising flexibility.

Likes:
- Eating (mainly sand/wet sand)
- Ice Cream (Not the very sweet ones though.)
- Following Yona
- Riding on Yona’s Neck/Shoulder/Head
- Being Carried
- Being Fond Over by Women (secretly)

Dislikes:
- Seeing women getting hurt. (Memory of Marcia’s death haunts Jonah at times.)
- Harming women (Doesn’t like to attack women much, but if Yona is in danger by one then Jonah will attack.)
- Poachers
- Sweets

Trivia:
- Jonah is named after and nature/personality based on the character, Jonathan ‘Jonah’ Mar from the manga, Jormungand just like Yona.
- Just like Yona, Jonah’s bio is little or more based off Jonah Mar’s story.
- Even though Larvitar are 158.7lbs, Jonah likes to be carried around or ride on Yona’s neck/shoulder/head. Anime physics always counters this fact. We can pull stuff out of nowhere, people! This is how we carry stuff that really weighs a ton even though it looks like only five pounds.

This is for END RUN. I want to submit this, but I don't think Yona's backstory is legal. Meaning I don't think that a child soldier to bodyguard to spy is realistic and I feel like it will be rejected when submitted . . . paranoid, I know. However, according to :iconwitojeruhi-sieve: this could possibly happen.

I might cross out the tape recorder from the items list because I think they were bulky back then and not that portable than the ones we have today.

Other info regarding this will appear sooner or later.

Nice work. Everything seems to be in order and you added more than enough information for this. I applaud you :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
